Hello 2020 A New Decade!

2020 is here! Ready or not it is upon us.

Do you have your goals set?
How about a few pointers for a good start this year?

Goals

A great habit to start doing each new year is to really take a look in the past and future. Take time to write out 2020 on a piece of paper. Next, draw lines that connect the year to the major themes in your life such as Family/Friends, Health/Fitness/Wellness, Career, or Finances. In each of those areas, you can create goals or set a direction for those areas. Connect the goals to the theme area. This is called a concept map or mind mapping. These are often used in business and education during brainstorming, but the process easily translates to all of your goal settings!

One useful example could be making a wellness goal that includes both health and fitness. A plan of some kind of workout for 5 days a week is beneficial. This can include a step goal, a home workout program, or even plans to attend local classes.

Another idea might be that you drink eight 8oz glasses of water each day of the week. Remember to connect your goals to some change or make it be something important to you. Do you have a spring trip in a few months? There you go! #goals

Positive Affirmations

Repeating positive affirmations connected to you each day is a way to change your outlook. Are you willing to try using some positive thinking? Write out statements that coincide with your 2020 goals and repeat them out loud each daily. Create affirmations that are full explanations of what you are going to accomplish. If your goal is to eat healthier, your affirmation may read as: “I am focused to learn new things about cooking to improve my healthy choices daily, and I commit to finding new recipes through researching cookbooks, health coach advice, and internet recipes each week.” Be positive.

Tracking

Find yourself a good calendar. Many local banks and stores give away calendars with their logos or coupons. You can also download printable calendars online. Calendars of all shapes and sizes are available to be purchased at discount dollar stores. Your own smartphone probably has a calendar app. Start to use one of these methods to track your daily goals. Marking off days gives you increased satisfaction and creates motivation to continue.

2020 can be the change you wanted. By combining goals setting, positive affirmations, and positive thinking, with daily tracking, you have an excellent start to the new year. Take control of your goals for the year, start with January and then on to the next months.
