Apples are a popular fall fruit for many people.
In the Fall, there are many areas that have local farms that allow you to pick your fresh fruit from the trees. Stores have a variety of apples with some special pricing in the right seasons. They seem to be used in many restaurant’s unique recipes. You may see apple pancakes, apple salads, apple turnovers or apple drinks. Using the apples as toppings on cakes or as fillings for pies is common.
Do you eat a raw apple by itself?
There are about 100 varieties of apples grown in the United States, although 90% of the production is approximately 15 kinds of apples. Red Delicious is the most popular of the apples. You may also see Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, and MacIntosh. There are also other varieties not as easily found like Pink Lady, Roxbury Russet, Pippin, and several hybrid versions that combine some of these varieties.
Apples help with regulation and gut health. The fruit is full of fiber that helps produce fatty acids that benefit colon health. They can help you be happy and active.
Some people say 2 medium apples a day keeps the doctor away. That is not certain, but it helps to lower bad cholesterol over 6 months. The fiber is also beneficial to weight loss.
Many athletes use an apple for a pre or post-workout snack. You may find them adding them to a smoothie or with some nuts. For sure this is a good snack with big benefits.
